TRANSPORT ELEMENTS of COMPARISON

 

 

FERROUTAGE or MERROUTAGE (roll on, roll off): trucks are carried on trains or boats.

MULTI MODAL COMBINED : mobiles boxes or containers are carried on trucks, trains, barges or vessels which means better safety on roads.

 

® Highway safety:

 Advantage to multimodal: 90% is performed by rail or waterways which means less traffics on roads network.

 

® Driver’s safety:

        Advantage to multimodal: Multimodal: drivers do net travel with mobile boxes or containers;

 

® Economy:

        Advantage to multimodal:

On a train, one can carry at least 40 boxes equivalent to 40 trucks while the ferroutage carry no more than 18 trucks.

On top of that, the containers can be loaded on top of each other on several units on boat transport.

 

® Damages to tunnels in case of fire events:

         Advantage to multimodal: the damages would be far less importants owing to the fact that neither fuel, nor tyres, or trucks components are involved. Accordingly, repairs to the tunnels would be shortened.

 

 

WHAT WOULD BRING THE FERROUTAGE ?

 

 

            To enhance multimodal transport, one can use the existing network under-utilised to day, which means immediately operational and cheaper.

No investment is necessary to adapt.

 

To attract the carriers:

-         More flexibility

-         Lower rates

-         Better for driver’s welfare and security

 

Develop many small dispatch centers:

-         Better flexibility

-         Lower investment

-         Quicker set-up

-         Rational transport organisation

-         Lighter handling equipment

 

We invite all people involved in goods public transport to meet together in order to comply with the wishes of:

-         the State       : to obtain a lower cost as studies and test are expensive

-         the carriers  : help them to make normal profit mostly the small carriers

-         the citizens   : better support rationalised evolution of transport in Europe

 

 

THE MULTIMODAL WILL START AGAIN ONLY IF WE ALL ARE CONCERNED.
